The Guyana Together campaign aims to achieve greater acceptance levels among Guyanese and reduce the level of stigma and prejudice by telling stories of real people who have found acceptance and support from family, coworkers, neighbours, friends and religious leaders.

Why is this important?

  • In Guyana, same-sex intimacy is punishable by imprisonment

  • There is no recognition of trans-identities or non-binary individuals under the law.

  • Guyana is the only South American country and the only Caribbean nation with unchallenged laws criminalizing same-sex intimacy.

  • Celebrating Pride in Guyana is an act of resistance, taking up public space to inspire others to come out and advocate for their rights despite the legal challenges.

  • There is a need to fundraise and campaign for the repeal of these discriminatory laws to promote equality and justice.
