Orgullo Tapatío, a favorite organization of our headliner Gala Varo, was launched in 2024 as an initiative of the Taller Ciudad Foundation, which has been fostering growth, social, and cultural integration in Guadalajara since 2016. Over the years, the foundation has directly impacted more than 20,000 people by promoting respect and diversity. Orgullo Tapatío now serves as a platform to elevate LGBT+ community initiatives and their allies, working towards a safer, more equitable city. Funding will support the creation of Guadalajara's first 2SLGBTQ+ Community Centre.
The Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD) is an LGBTQ rights organization based in Georgetown, Guyana, committed to eliminating inequities faced by the 2SLGBTQ+ community. SASOD has successfully repealed Guyana's cross-dressing laws, which previously hindered drag artists from performing. They are now focused on challenging laws that criminalize same-sex intimacy in Guyana and across the Caribbean region, advocating for equality and human rights for all.
The Social Advocacy Travel Award at the University of Toronto scholarship provides scholarships to LGBTQ+ students from equity-seeking groups. This initiative not only supports academic pursuits but also encourages recipients to explore the world, fostering a global perspective and a commitment to positive change.
